Ziptrak® Outdoor Blinds

From 1 September 2024, Ziptrak® increased its warranty period from two years to five years. This updated warranty covers all Ziptrak® components used in both outdoor and interior systems, and applies to authorised fabricators, retailers, and installers who source components through Ziptrak Pty Ltd or an approved distributor.

Ziptrak® blinds have recommended size limits of 6000mm wide by 3500mm high for Sunscreen Mesh, and 5500mm wide by 3000mm high for Clear PVC. These aren't hard limits — a qualified installer may choose to go beyond them based on their assessment of factors like wind exposure, material type, operating mechanism, and structural support, though larger installations do come with specific requirements that must be followed.

Depending on the blind's dimensions and chosen material, the finished product may include one or more vertical seams where separate panels have been joined together by welding.

Ziptrak® blinds are trusted by homeowners and businesses across Australia and New Zealand, and are commonly installed in coastal and high-wind areas. Here's what to know about wind operation:

• Blinds should be fully down and locked, or fully retracted — halfway is the most vulnerable position

• In storms or severe weather, always fully retract

• For spring-balanced blinds, press against the material to relieve wind pressure before operating

• Motorised blinds must be supervised when raising or lowering in wind

• Correct installation is critical to wind performance

Ziptrak® is the only blind system featuring a centre-lock-release, enabling both left and right locks to be disengaged simultaneously from a single central point. It's also the only system that allows locking and unlocking from both the inside and outside.

The method used to attach blind material to the vertical tracks is unique to Ziptrak®, combining premium materials, precision engineering, and a patented design. This gives the system a secure hold that holds firm even under wind pressure or minor building movement, and unlike many other brands, Ziptrak® blinds won't rattle in the wind. It's a system that has earned a strong industry reputation and is widely imitated, but never matched.

Motorisation is a popular and convenient option for Ziptrak® blinds, available exclusively with SunScreen blind material via a 240V/AC tubular motor with built-in obstacle detection.

It's particularly well-suited to blinds in hard-to-reach locations, situations where manual operation isn't practical, or commercial settings where multiple blinds need to be controlled at once.

One thing to keep in mind: strong wind can prevent the material from sliding freely down the tracks, so motorised blinds should always be supervised while in motion.

The right choice comes down to what you need most from your blinds.

PVC is the better option if you want to fully block wind, retain heat, and maintain a clear view outside. Sunscreen mesh suits those who want some airflow while blocking sun and glare — it can also block a significant amount of wind and rain (up to around 96%) and help retain some temperature in the space.

Worth noting on privacy: sunscreen mesh allows you to see out during the day while restricting the view in, but this reverses at night — with internal lighting on, anyone outside will be able to see in clearly.

Motorisation is only available for sunscreen mesh blinds, not clear PVC.
